Note: the specific dated promotion this page originally covered has ended. Early booking discounts return regularly, so here is why booking early works and how to make sure you get any offer released afterwards. For what is bookable right now, see my current Disney offers page.
Why booking early actually saves money
Disney does not hold a single sale that everyone waits for. Room discounts appear through the year, apply to selected resorts and dates, and are limited in how many rooms they cover. Booking early gets you into the pool of reservations that a discount can be applied to, rather than trying to find availability once everyone else has moved.
There is a second reason that matters just as much: the rooms families actually want go first. Value resorts, larger rooms, and anything sleeping more than four are the first to sell out for busy dates. A discount on a resort that does not fit your family is not a saving.
But what if a better offer comes out after I book?
This is the question that stops people booking, and the answer is reassuring. New promotions can often be applied to an existing reservation. I have done this many times for clients, in one case saving a family several hundred dollars on a stay they had already booked months earlier.
You do not have to watch for these yourself. When I book a trip, I keep checking, and if something better appears that fits your dates I will tell you and apply it. Occasionally a promotion means changing room type, and then it becomes your call whether the saving is worth it.
What booking early does not lock you into
A Walt Disney World vacation package holds with a $200 deposit, and the balance is not due until 30 days before you arrive. You are not paying for the whole trip up front, and there is room to adjust along the way. Many of my clients pay theirs down gradually across the months between.
