When Can You Book Walt Disney World? Every Booking Window Explained

One of the most common questions I get is simply: when can I actually book this?

Walt Disney World does not open everything at once. Packages, dining, and Lightning Lane all run on separate clocks, and missing a window usually means paying more for less, or not getting the thing at all. Here is the whole timeline in one place.

Vacation packages: roughly a year or more ahead

Disney releases each travel year in advance, though the exact date moves around. 2027 packages went on sale April 16, 2026, covering arrivals through October 31, 2027, with November and December dates following later.

There is no fixed annual date, which is exactly why people miss it. If you have a rough idea of when you want to travel, tell me and I will let you know the moment your dates open. The rooms that sell out first are the ones families actually want: value resorts, larger rooms, and anything that sleeps more than four. Booking early also lets you lock a price and apply any offer that appears later.

Dining reservations: 60 days out

This is the window people most often lose. Dining opens 60 days before your arrival, and if you are staying at a Disney resort hotel you can book for your entire stay at that 60 day mark, up to a 10 night stay. Off-site guests book 60 days ahead of each individual date.

That difference matters more than it sounds. Staying onsite means you are booking your whole trip's dining while off-site guests are still waiting day by day, and by then the popular tables are gone. The hardest reservations go within minutes of the window opening, so if a particular restaurant is on your list, that morning is not optional.

Lightning Lane: 7 days out for resort guests

If you are staying at a Disney resort hotel, you can purchase and book Lightning Lane Multi Pass 7 days before arrival, for your entire stay. The window opens at 7:00 AM Eastern. This is one of the strongest and least discussed perks of staying onsite, and another reason I steer most of my clients to a Disney resort. The best attractions get claimed early, so being ready at 7:00 AM on your first eligible day makes a real difference to your park days.

Park tickets and special events

Separately ticketed events like Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party and Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party go on sale months ahead and do sell out, particularly the dates closest to Halloween and the December weekends. These need their own tickets on top of park admission.

A simple timeline

• 12 months or more out: book your package and lock your resort

• 60 days out: dining reservations, entire stay if you are onsite

• 7 days out: Lightning Lane Multi Pass, if you are staying at a Disney resort

• Day of: additional Lightning Lane selections as you use each one

Do I have to pay for everything up front?

No. A vacation package requires a $200 USD deposit to confirm, with the balance due 30 days before arrival. If you book within 30 days of travel, payment is due in full at the time of booking. Many of my clients pay it down gradually in the months between.

What if a discount is released after I already booked?

This is one of the best reasons to book early and to use an agent. Offers are often applied to existing bookings, and I check for my clients when new promotions drop. You do not have to watch for them yourself. If there is no availability for your resort and room type, I will inform you of your options to take advantage of the promotion.

Do I really need dining reservations?

For the popular restaurants, yes. Your window opens 60 days before arrival and the hardest tables are gone within minutes. If you would rather be flexible, that is fine too, but the signature restaurants and character meals are not walk-up experiences.

Is it cheaper to book directly with Disney?

No. The price is the same, and a travel agent costs you nothing extra. What you get is somebody tracking your booking windows, watching for discounts, and handling the details.

When is final payment due?

30 days before arrival for vacation packages. I remind my clients well ahead of it, so nobody risks an automatic cancellation.

Can I change my dates after booking?

Usually, though the specifics depend on how far out you are and what you booked. Package cancellations 30 days or more ahead are generally refundable minus any third party supplier fees, while cancelling inside 29 days carries a $200 fee. Ask me before changing anything, since the right sequence often saves money.

Should I get travel insurance?

For a trip this size, I recommend at least considering it. Flights, resort and tickets add up quickly, and the one time you need it is the time you are glad you have it. I can walk you through the options.

When should I book flights?

Flights typically open later than Disney packages and follow their own pricing patterns, so book your Disney portion first and add flights once schedules are released for your dates.
